Etwas the Jester
Etwas was the Jester for the old King-Priest of Scales. When that ruler died long into his years and his son, the Bard King ascended to the throne, the Jester was set aside, as the Bard King could entertain his own guests. Dejected, the Jester was determined to find new sources of inspiration and traveled into the lands of Essence, seeking the forbidden libraries. There, she found ancient rites meant to breach barriers to alternate worlds. Her experimentation with these powers left her changed, broken, and a touch off.
Thu'Balris
Thu and Balris, most often seen as a single entity, was once a dying bog dragon. In its quest for life eternal, it sought to immerse itself in the ether mines of Essence. Once inside, the soul of the dragon was pulled from its body, but forever bound to its flesh. This white, beautiful spirit is now forever entwined with the rotting and desiccated flesh. The result is Thu, the soaring serpent, and Balris, the corpse lizard. Together, as they must always be together, they create the form of Thu`Balris.
Arachnis King
Long ago, the Arachnis King left the forests of Thorns. He was pressed out by the expanding colony of arachnis, and left to find a new mate and new territory. His journey took him to the lands of Silence where, over centuries, he adapted to the desert lands, becoming a perfect predator. He burrows into the sands, waiting for foes, then striking with ruthless efficiency.
Valeria of Crowns
Lady Valeria, Dowager Duchess of Hereford and Ether Bluffs is formerly minor royalty of Essence Lands. Her marriage to the Duke of Hereford solidified the trade alliance between Scales and Essence for Ether supplies to keep the forges of Red Rock running. When her husband was killed during a zeppelin flight home, the Duchess inherited both lands. She has maintained the alliance between the two kingdoms, despite the trade deal being canceled by Essence.
Hemlock
By title, she is the daughter of two ancient gorgons of the desert. But from birth, she was crippled, incapable of flight. Over centuries, she sought ways to gain the abilities of her parents, eventually, seeking aid from the Tempest Construction Yards. She has been promised flight when she lays the last living soul to rest at the feet of the Chaos Constructor.
M'rhythas Shae
When the portals of madness tore across the lands of Terrene Gall, it did so near a powerful Druid. M’rhythas Shae, once a great Druid of the Bark, was corrupted by the otherworldly influence, changing her and shattering her mind. Now she roams the forests, twisting and reshaping nature around her into the slime-like form that she inherited.
The Baron and Cleo
Long ago, Cleo, a celestial, and The Baron, a demon, fell in love. This love was roundly forbidden, and the two were pulled back to their respective lands, exchanging halos as a token of their eternal love. They both fled their prisons for Terrene Gall where they faced legions trying to divide them.
The Baron and Cleo know their love will mean death, but after centuries of waiting, they won't let anyone get in their way. They die together or not at all.
Lady
Lady, also known as the Mistress of the Sands, feeds on Netherworld energy that bleeds into Terrene Gall through untended portals and rifts. She is said to be the mother of all manner of lizard and dragon, but few know if this is true or not. She has found a way to gestate life through leeching energy from the netherworld, and has remained alone for centuries, hidden far beneath the sands of Steelgate. When the city was destroyed, it destabilized the portals from which she fed, forcing her back to the surface and world of man.
Blackstar
The Blackstar is a ghostly form that barely exists in our reality. It is said that it was formed at the outset of creation, when the gods created the notions of life and death. In this ancient time, the nightmare energies twisted the soul into the Blackstar, the Light that Never Shone. The Blackstar is a pulsing, radiant blue-tinged whirlpool that drifts and ripples with motes of energy of all colors and type. At the center is a great, unblinking eye that stares maddeningly into the void.
Mia's Seeding Contraption
Mia’s Seeding Contraption is a massive series of small mulching and seeding units that have been tangled together by the vine-like strength of Thorns. No one quite knows who Mia was, or if she still exists, but the great machine wanders Terrene Gall, killing anything in its path and seeding the ground with a particularly vicious and semi-sentient form of kudzu. Most who try to climb the machine to find the cockpit or innards are added to the fertilization routine, so most just flee.
Komrade Kroaker
Komrade Kroaker was born in the Rage Mountains to a displaced goblin clan. A dwarven raiding party wiped out most of his clan, so he fled East in his panic and found his way to the Viper Empress and her court. There, he was taken in, first as an amusement, but, eventually he was trained. He became, not only a skilled alchemist, but an excellent agent for the Viper Empress. After a time, she grew weary of him and cast him from the court. In his rage, he stole the only surviving Giant Cave Toad, and he hit the roads armed with knowledge of explosives and had a trusty steed!
Eternal Warden
The Eternal Warden is a once-proud knight that was dragged into the ranks of the Shades. The turret-sidecar belches a black essence that draws the life from a foe. Atop the great constructed steed, sits a knight-captain that has clearly abandoned his life for undying service. The coat is a reminder that the Warden once served Scales, the moldering state of the body leaves no illusions as to its current form.
Fires of the Earth
The Great Fires of the Earth is a massive Siege Weapon crafted using the shell of one of the last Tortoise Kings of Thorns. The shell was scraped carefully, then the underside fitted with all manner of hellish weaponry from the Forge Pits of Strife. The result is a massive siege engine the likes of which the world has never seen.
Infinite Recursion
Where science & insanity mix, the result is a spiral of arcane concepts and raving madness. The archmages of Essence sought to pull their entire realm into another plane of existence to escape the Great War. Unfortunately, as they pulled apart reality, something came through to them. The Infinite Recursion is a swirling mass of warped space-time, constantly folding in around itself in a tesseract motion and ringed in eldritch sigils and arcane diagrams that make no sense.
Magmarot Steelhorn
In ancient days, the Slag Thane, Steelhorn, was gifted the horned helmet of the rage demons. With it, she was inured from flame, and used the helmet to great advantage. Eventually, she challenged the Cradle of Nymeer, who drowned her beneath the magma pools of the the Forge Fires. When she died, her loyal sergeants trekked across the Rage Mountains to call upon the Necromancers of Marble City. They paid in blood and souls, but bartered for a spell that gave back the life that the forges had taken. Now, the reanimated Magmarot Steelhorn, lumbers to the field of battle, swinging her burning axe through legions of enemies.
Ja'Ru
When Scales sought to uncover the secrets of biofuel, they excavated lands, pulling tree and earth from sacred grounds along the shorelines of Thorns. The kodama, tree spirits of Thorns, woke from their ancient slumber and took shape. The massive form was that of a great badger, which roared from the mudpits of the shoreline to challenge the profaning dwarven squad. Dwarving ingenuity bound this creature to a biofuel pump, to imprison it, but more importantly protect its infrastructure.
Venerzad Kahin
Venerzad Kahin is an elf, and former Vizier of the Netherworld. When the forces of Delirium assaulted the sands, he used his powers to save as many as he could. Enraged by this affront, the starling wail-witches cursed him to forever roam the lands of the living until he killed as many as he had saved that day.
Malice
A huge dragonesque creature blending both the demonic look of Strife’s Korrad Dur and the Warden military edge of Scales. The great dragon Malice reportedly took one of the Knight Wardens prisoner and forced the slave to teach it knightly etiquette. Over time, the two became almost friends, and the result instilled something approaching honor to the great draconic warlord. As a consequence of this, Malice stands tall on the field of battle, arrayed in the finest armor and wielding a massive trench pick. On the field of battle, he dons a massive mask that muzzles his fiery breath, piping it through his armor to keep him scalding hot to the touch.
Wings of Ill Omen
Long ago, a clockmaker of the Azure Palace named Anabel Goldwright fell in love with an elven priest of Steelgate. Though their love was true, the elf’s vows meant that he could not stay with her. When he returned to his homeland, she fell into a deep ennui, throwing herself into her work. Years later, when she died, her estate sent a bizarre, clockwork raven to the priest’s church, according to her will. With the destruction of the family after the fall of Steelgate, the souls of tortured lovers fly forth to visit doom upon all who see them.
Legend
This amalgamation of decayed wood and moss covering the great corpse of an ancient Stygian wyrm. When the druids of the bark came upon the great corpse, they bent their magicks, and the biofuel mechanisms of the hollow, to create life inside the corpse. The result is an abomination, filled with rage and life, but trapped in the bones of the dead. The long, serpentine body is reminiscent of Lung-style dragons, but the moss-covered stitches of skin are only notionally covering the tubing and bones beneath.
